Frequently Asked Questions
If your question is not listed here, our team is happy to discuss your specific situation directly.
What documents do I typically need for a Non-B visa application?
The core documents include a valid passport, a completed visa application form, a recent passport photograph, and a letter of employment or a letter of invitation from your Thai employer. Additional supporting materials â such as the company's business registration, corporate income tax filings, and evidence of at least four Thai employees per foreign hire â are required from the employer. We prepare a tailored checklist for each client based on their category and embassy of application.
How long does a work permit application typically take?
Most work permit applications processed at the Ministry of Labour's Bangkok office are completed within the same day or within three to five working days when submitted with a complete and properly certified dossier. Applications involving BOI-promoted companies can follow an expedited channel. The overall timeline also depends on how quickly your employer can provide authenticated corporate documents, so early coordination is advisable.
Can I switch from a tourist visa to a non-immigrant visa while in Thailand?
In most circumstances, a category change from a tourist entry to a non-immigrant category must be done at a Royal Thai embassy or consulate outside Thailand. However, there are specific provisions â particularly relating to certain family or education categories â that may allow an in-country extension under limited conditions. We assess each client's situation individually and advise on the most appropriate and cost-effective route.
When is the right time to consider applying for permanent residency?
Thai permanent residency is available under annual quotas â typically announced between October and December of each year. Applicants generally need to have held a non-immigrant visa and relevant work permit for at least three consecutive years, with a demonstrable income and tax contribution record. We recommend a feasibility review at least six to twelve months before the quota window opens, so documentation can be compiled without pressure.
Do I need to attend the immigration office appointments in person?
For some filings, such as 90-day address reports, in-person attendance is required, though online reporting is increasingly available for those who have completed at least one in-person cycle. Work permit submissions and certain visa extensions do require the applicant to be present for biometric and photograph stages. We accompany clients to relevant appointments and advise in advance on exactly what to expect from each visit.
What happens if my employer changes while I hold a work permit?
A work permit is issued to a specific employer and covers specific duties at a designated location. If you change employer, you must obtain a new work permit under the new company before commencing work. Similarly, changes to your job title, salary, or work location require a notification-of-change filing. Working under a permit that no longer reflects your actual employment is a legal violation, so we recommend contacting us as soon as a change is anticipated.
